You’ve been stuck in lockdown for months and you now know, more than ever, that you really need a new home with more space for the kids and a garden in which you can relax. The question is how can you afford to make it happen?

The good news is that there are two government schemes that can really help.

The First Home Fund. This is a shared equity scheme for first-time buyers, which aims to make home ownership accessible to more people. Run by the Scottish government, it provides first-time buyers with up to £25,000 to help them buy a property. The fund has enough money to help up to 8,000 people - so apply now and don’t miss out.

The Help to Buy scheme. This is open to both first time buyers and existing homeowners. It is designed to help you to purchase a brand new home in Scotland with just a 5% deposit and an affordable mortgage. Under the scheme you could receive an interest free equity loan from the Scottish Government of up to 15% of the value of the property, which means you only need a mortgage for up to 80% of the value of the property.
