Its time for tea!

Get your savoury snacks and sweet treats at the ready as its Afternoon Tea week!

It’s become the nation’s favourite, so we have chosen to celebrate national Afternoon Tea week that runs from the 12th to the 18th of August and give it the recognition it truly deserves. What could be better than having a new home to host and a brand-new kitchen to create your Afternoon Tea delights.

Firstly, let’s give thanks to how it all began, with lunch never being a thing back in the day, the Duchess of Bedford created the social event full of savoury and sweet treats. There are plenty of variations of Afternoon Tea and that’s the beauty of it, be as adventurous or traditional as you like, no one’s judging! Bring out that Duke or Duchess within and invite your family and friends over to your new home for your very own royal event this summer.

Now there’s no rules with Afternoon Tea, however, we thought we would give some tips and tricks to help you on your way…

Get your space ready

Our homes offer great kitchen space and with many people referring to it as the heart of the home, you want it to be the best. A brand-new home, means a brand-new kitchen full of high quality modern furnishings. Afternoon Tea usually consists of finger sandwiches, scones and cakes and with plenty of recipes out there, get creative with those sandwich combos and baking those treats, your brand spanking new oven is waiting to be used.

Let’s talk tea

The clue is in the name, however, we aren’t all tea drinkers, so fruit juices are always a great alternative especially in the summer heat. Another favourite that’s made the cut, proving quite a regular with Afternoon Tea, is prosecco. As much as you will probably tell yourself ‘oh I really shouldn’t’, who can deny how well prosecco goes with cake. For all the tea lovers out there, you are no doubt experts at getting the kettle on, get adventurous with lots of new fruit and herbal teas; flavours like orange, peppermint and chai prove to be popular. So, get your tea pot at the ready and fill it with your desired flavour of choice.

We go together like…

New sandwich combos are being created all the time, but your Afternoon Tea fillings are totally up to you. Create your own or go adventurous with things like Brie and grape, hummus and falafel and pesto chicken with avocado. However, you can’t beat the classics like egg mayo, ham and cheese, tuna and a BLT as these will always be all-round people pleasers.

The sweet stuff

It’s now time to address possibly the greatest part and that’s all the sweet treats. Scones are an essential part of Afternoon Tea, remember your jam and clotted cream though! Always leave room for cake, there’s the traditional tier like carrot cake and a Victoria sponge but anything that involves chocolate, people are generally a fan of. Tray bakes however, are a good place to start if you fancy making some treats from scratch. If you decide to bake in your new kitchen, or fake it till you make it, your friends and family are sure to enjoy your Afternoon Tea in your brand-new home no matter your cake choices.
