Calderwood Village hosts Housing Minister as he announces extension of Help to Buy (Scotland)

We were pleased to welcome Housing Minister Kevin Stewart MSP to our Calderwood Village development today for the announcement of a two-year extension of the Help to Buy (Scotland) scheme.

Help to Buy will be extended beyond 2019, helping more people purchase a new-build home without the need for a large deposit. Since 2013, the scheme has supported more than 12,000 households into a new home.

From April 2019, a further £100 million will be invested over two years, helping up to 4,000 households to purchase a new home. Mr Stewart said: “Since we introduced Help to Buy, the scheme has not only helped thousands of buyers into new homes - it is estimated to have contributed around half a billion pounds to the Scottish economy and supported around 9,000 jobs.

“We know house builders still see Scotland as a place to continue to develop and invest, with the latest figures showing new house completions grew by 5% over the last year.

“Housing is about more than bricks and mortar – we want to provide safe, warm homes, help create a fairer Scotland, and preserve a diverse and more resilient construction sector.”

At our award-winning Calderwood Village development, where several members of the Dundas team were on hand to welcome the Minister, more than 50 percent of our sales to date have utilised Help to Buy. With an average selling price of under £180,000, the scheme has enabled over 70 young families on the site to get onto the property ladder.

For Dundas Estates, as an independent, medium-sized housebuilder, this latest release of Help to Buy funds is fantastic news for us as it plays an important role in the market we operate in. We specialise in providing well-designed, high-quality, affordable housing. Today’s announcement gives us a great deal of confidence to continue investing in the future of our business over a three- to five-year timeframe, which helps to increase the supply of much needed housing and sustains ongoing employment opportunities for us as a business.
